Scottish Lass
scottishbarbie1.jpg

This bonnie Highland lass wears traditional Scottish attire.

The doll used for this design was a "Courtney" doll, a counterpart to Skipper--her face was not retouched, but her hair was given a wave and styled.

A gaudy dress and gentle air
May slightly touch the heart,
But it's innocence and modesty
That polishes the dart.

Her outfit is a traditional Highland ensemble: the long, pleated skirt in soft, cotton flannel resembles the "Dress Gordon" clan plaid; the waistband and hem are trimmed in black grosgrain ribbon, which coordinates with her jacket. The jacket is of black wool, very carefully tailored in a style similar to riding jackets (a style originating in Victorian times): the sleeves are slim, tiny black buttons down the front of the jacket, the waist nipped in with a flare over the hips, the back is longer than the front and flared. The jacket is fully lined with the same plaid fabric as the skirt and the delicate lace trim at the neckline and cuffs is also repeated on the hem of the skirt. Beneath the skirt is a white cotton petticoat, trimmed with lace, and with tulle added on the inside to give added fullness.
