Caitlín is all dressed up for the promenade on busy Grafton Street in Dublin, around the turn of the
twentieth century. Her ensemble and hair-style have been created with careful attention to detail in the "Gibson Girl" style--her
trim walking suit and large, ornate hat would the height of fashion.
The doll used for this design is the Burberry
Barbie--her face is beautiful, as you can see, and required no repainting or touch-ups. Her dark auburn hair has been styled
in an up-do in back, with two cork-screw ringlets in front.
Caitlin carries a nosegay of bright spring daffodils tied with cream ribbon and a stylish parasol of
green taffeta trimmed with black velvet ribbon, cream satin rose, and a green crystal-cut bead.
The colors of this outfit scanned somewhat dark, but they are an elegant combination of deep green with
black trim. The long, slim skirt of dark green taffeta is trimmed with wide black lace at the hemline and black velvet ribbon
accenting the waistline and the edge of the lace. The separate top consists of a tailored bodice with long sleeves, poufed
at the shoulders and a full peplum, all of dark green taffeta. Black lace accents the sleeves from the close-fitting elbows
to the wrist and black velvet ribbon trims the elbow and waistline. Tiny black buttons accent the back as well as a stylish,
large bow of black grosgrain ribbon. The bodice is decorated with a lovely cream lace medallion in a cameo design with scalloped
edges, mirrored by a black and white cameo brooch with scalloped gold edges at the high neck-line. Both skirt and top are
fastened with hidden snaps and can be removed.
The hat has the fashionable extra-wide brim of the era; it is of the
matching dark green taffeta, trimmed with black velvet ribbon, black satin roses and bows, and fluffy black feathers which
cascade down the side and back. The hat can be removed and is secured to the doll's head by a with green pearlescent hat-pin.
