"There she lay, so beautiful that he could not turn his eyes away, and he stooped down and gave her a kiss. But as soon as he kissed her, Briar-Rose opened her eyes and awoke, and looked at him quite sweetly.

Then they went down together, and the king awoke, and the queen, and the whole court, and looked at each other in great astonishment."

"Briar Rose," so called in the fairy-tale, because her castle was encased in rampant briar rose bushes during the years of enchantment, is fittingly attired in a gown of a beautiful rose-colored and rose-covered fabric.

She has wavy moonlight-blonde hair styled with two tighter curls on each side and twisted back under her hat. Her face was partially repainted and sealed, with grey-blue eyes that were not retouched and new shell-pink lips.

She wears the popular "steeple" hat, or "hennin," made of the same rose fabric as the dress with a band of braid around the brim and a pale pink satin ribbon band goes under the chin. An intricately folded veil of pale pink netting is attached to the hat. (For more information about this particular style of dress and hat, see the design "Medievale Autumnale.") The doll comes with pink earrings and ring as well as a hand-made necklace of pink pearls and antique-gold rose-shaped beads. As a bride, she carries a beautiful bouquet of pink, white and mauve roses tied with pink netting ribbon.

The dress is high-waisted with a deep decolletage and long, fitted sleeves. Pale, shell-pink netting forms the shawl-collar and sleeve ruffles and a light pink braid "belt" accents the empire-style waist. A beautiful ribbon of pink cabbage roses and green leaves on a cream background serves as an insert in the bodice, the "stomacher," which is also trimmed in lace, and the ribbon also extends down the front of the skirt, with a gold brooch shaped like a heart made of roses accents the point of the bodice just above the belt.
