"O love, what hours were thine and mine,
In lands of palm and southern pine;
In lands of palm, of orange-blossom,
Of olive, aloe, and maize and vine."

by Lord Alfred Tennyson

In the Victorian language of flowers, Orange Blossom means:
"Your Purity Equals Your Loveliness"

This doll is dressed in the style of the 1880's and is decked out for a promenade to celebrate spring. During the Victorian and Edwardian period of the English empire "chinoiserie" and "japonisme" styles became fashionable as people collected furniture, tableware, and material from the orient. The material of the skirt and parasol is in this style with Japanese-style parasols bearing peonies, cherry blossom, dragonflies etc in shades of blue, pink, peach and green on a mocha background sprigged with white flowers.

The blouse is of a mocha satin with the requisite high neckline and extravagantly poufed, long sleeves. There is cream-colored lace at the wrists and cream braid decorates the front and back of the bodice and forms the high neck, which is adorned by a cameo.

Accessories include a delicate, wide-brimmed straw hat, which along with the parasol would protect a lady's complexion from the sun as she took in the sun and air in the park. The hat is draped with floral, cream lace and trimmed with large, peach satin, peony-like blooms. The parasol is trimmed with cream lace, a peach rose, and a bow of cream and sage green ribbon, while the stick is wrapped with cream ribbon and topped with a pearl handle. She carries a bouquet of delicate, white orange blossoms tied with cream and green ribbons. The doll wears cream-colored high heels.

The collectable doll has a beautiful, rich coloring, suggesting Spanish origins (indeed, she began her life as the DOTW Spanish Barbie), with large brown eyes, dark, winged brows and black hair pulled back into a chignon to which four sausage curls have been added at the nape of the neck to enhance the period style. Her lips have been repainted a subtle mocha-pink and sealed with gloss sealant

The skirt style of the period was for a relatively straight skirt which was then enhanced with an elaborate bustle at the back. The bustle is poufed and gathered in tiers in a style known as "the waterfall". The gathers are accented with peach- colored satin roses. The skirt is trimmed with a rich fringe on complementary tones of peach, cream and sage green.
