Rose Faerie

The elegant Rose Faerie is the third in my Flower Faerie series. The design employs the Collector's Edition Swan Lake ballerina Barbie. This is an absolutely gorgeous doll with such unusual and delicate coloring and features--perfect for this OOAK design, so her face has not been retouched. She has ivory skin which contrasts beautifully with her glossy brunette hair and green eyes with rooted lashes. Her hair is styled in a riot of curls swept up off of her face (I have added a small burgundy ribbon rose to her hair since the pictures were taken).

Dancing beneath a rose bush twined with ivy and carpeted with moss, she bears away a bouquet featuring her namesake roses with coordinating flowers and berries, swathed in a cloud of green tulle and bound with green satin ribbon.

Accessories include the doll's original pearl earrings, sparkly white tights and pearly ballet shoes, as well as a beautiful pair of white, feather wings adorned with silvery glitter and three sparkling "jewels" of red, pink, and diamond crystal (the wings are attached under the bodice with a wire and are completely removable). She also has a green ribbon choker.

Rose Faerie's ensemble celebrates the rose and the style of the classical ballet. She has a fitted, strapless bodice which is made of multiple layers and accented with green satin ribbon for a "boned" appearance; the vertical ribbon boning continues into fluttering streamers over her skirt. White rose buttons march up the back and adorn the front like a broach. The skirt is of the same sheer floral chiffon as the bodice, scattered with burgundy-red roses and butterflies and green stems and leaves. The full hemline is finished with white, rose lace, and the skirt floats above layer upon layer of green tulle.

Because the doll is so poseable, the design benefits from including her original ballerina stand along with the floral stand which forms the backdrop of the tableau. Her own stand has been customized to blend with the design by covering the base with moss; the upright is clear and unobtrusive. The faerie's limbs can be arranged in whatever manner you wish and her stand placed in any relation to her "rose bush" that strikes your fancy.

Finally the custom stand which forms the Faerie's "rose bush" provides a beautiful, naturalistic backdrop. The base and upright are covered with green moss, while the "bush" is made of three gorgeous silk roses in varying stages of budding; they are burgundy in tone with delicate shading. Ivy and coordinating flowers, leaves, and berries round out the tableau.
